New lesbian drama for BBC

BBC3′s brand new six-part lesbian drama, Lip Service, has begun filming in Glasgow and the network has just announced who we can expect to see filling our screens with lesbian goodness when the show premieres early next year.

The three female lead roles will be played by Laura Fraser (Florence Nightingale, Casanova, The Boys Are Back), Ruta Gedmintas (The Tudors) and Fiona Button (The Palace).

Gedmintas plays Frankie, described as an “irreverent and provocative photographer”.

Laura Fraser plays Cat – Frankie’s former lover, who may not be as immune to Frankie’s charms as she professes to be…

And Fiona Button plays Tess – Cat’s best friend and flatmate who is struggling to meet Ms Right.

Major female supporting roles in Lip Service will be taken up by Roxanne McKee (Hollyoaks) and Heather Peace (The Chase, Blue Murder).

Writer and creator Harriet Braun says: “All of these characters are very close to my heart, so to have found such a great cast who bring them to life so fantastically is very exciting.

“Based on my own experiences and those of my friends, I wanted to write a sexy, funny and irreverent drama that reflects what it is to be a young gay woman living in Britain today.

“I loved The L Word but it’s high time we saw some contemporary British lesbians, with all the bad weather, trips to the pub and repressed emotions that go with that. It will be as funny as it is pathos-filled, because in my experience that’s how life is.”

To our UK friends, please keep an eye out for Lip Service and let us know what you think!

  1. Ha Ha cant wait, if you need any more cast gimme a shout! xxx

  2. What annoys me is that all the crew are straight apart from one, the editor of the last two episodes. All straight male directors. Interesting hey?
